STOCKTON - A California Highway Patrol pursuit of a man suspected in a San Jose attempted homicide and wantedinMerced on domestic violence chargesresulted in an officer-involved shooting Thursday morning.

According to Stockton police Officer Joe Silva, CHP officers pursuing the man on Interstate 5 around 1 a.m. requested assistance from Stockton police.

As Stockton police joined the pursuit, the fleeing driver's vehicle became disabled in the vicinity of the Alpine Avenue/Country Club Boulevard off-ramp. The individual then exited the car with a knife and a Stockton officer fired multiple shots, hittingthe manonce, said Silva.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he later died of his injuries.

He was identified later Thursday as Robert Craig Perry, 43.

No officers were injured in the altercation.

I-5 reopened at 11:14 a.m.
