SACRAMENTO - An attempted DUI investigation turned into a vehicle and foot pursuit in Sacramento Wednesday morning.
According to Sergeant Lisa Bowman of theSacramento County Sheriff's Dept.,a deputy was waved down around 2 a.m.by a woman standing outside her vehicle in the area ofKiefer Blvd.and Mayhew Rd. As the deputy made contact with the woman, later identified as Anna Jean Yi, 27, of Sacramento, he noticed she was behaving erratically, walking in and out of the roadway, and making little sense while talking.
The deputy subsequently requesteda DUI trained officer to evaluate Yi's ability to drive, and she began to struggle with him, said Bowman.
Yi regained control of her vehicle and fled the scene, hitting the deputy in the process, Bowman said.
The deputy shot at the vehicle before getting in his patrol car and pursuing Yi with the assistance of responding officers.
Yipulled into a drivewayon the 9000 block of Bramble Trail Way and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended, Bowman said.
According to Bowman, Yi was taken to a local hospital to be medically cleared before she wasbooked on misdemeanor charges of being under the influence of a narcotic, driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, andresisting arrest. She was also booked on felony charges ofevading a police officer,and assault on an officer in the line of duty.
The deputy, an 8-year veteran on the force, sustained minor injuries in the incident. He was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an ensuing investigation into the case.
Traffic in the area of Kiefer Blvd. and Mayhew Rd. was severely impacted following the incident while investigators processed the scene.
