STOCKTON, CA - Five people were shot, one fatally, near the parking lot of a northeast Stockton market Tuesday night.
Nearby resident Joanna Bowen heard the gunshots.
"I was a block down and heard boom, boom, boom. It was bad, it was real scary, it was real bad," Bowen said.
At approximately 9:45 p.m., the suspected shooter walked up to a group outside Danny's Market on the corner of N. Airport Way and E. Park St. and opened fire, Stockton Police Officer Joe Silva said.
Silva said 26-year-old Antoine Kelly, of Stockton, was killed in the shooting.
Bowen said she knew Kelly.
"He was okay, he was a good kid, he was starting to get into the crowd and stuff but he was a good boy," Bowen said.
Four other men were taken to an area hospital with gunshot wounds. One of the men, a 22-year-old individual from Oakland, was listed in critical condition, said Silva. The three other gunshot victims, a Sacramento man, 23, an Oakland man, 34, and a Stockton man, 30, are were all listed in stable condition.
"Right now we don't have a motive, homicide detectives are still canvassing the area, talking to witnesses," Silva said.
According to Silva, three to four suspects, only described as wearing hoodies, are being sought for questioning. No one is in custody.
The shooting appeared to be an isolated incident, but police are asking the community to be vigilant. Anyone with information should contact the Stockton Police Department.
Silva said Tuesday's shooting marks the twentieth homicide in the city of Stockton this year; at this time last year, there were 49 homicides.
"Yeah it's bad, it's gone too far," Bowen said of the violence in Stockton.
