SACRAMENTO - Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose are being considered by the U.S. Olympic Committee (USOC) as possible host cities for the 2024 Summer Games.

The USOC sent letters to the mayors of 35 cities to gauge their interest in bidding to become a host city.

However, it appears Sacramento will pass on the opportunity.

Steve Hammond, the president of the Sacramento Convention and Visitor's Bureau said the City doesn't have enough venues.

"We would find it very, very difficult to have the venues and the assets to be able to host the Summer Olympics," Hammond said.

That said, the region is no stranger to Olympic-type events. Trials for track and field were held in Sacramento in 2000 and 2004. However, venue and hotel needs are much smaller for the trials.

Not all hope is lost though. San Francisco is likely to bid on the 2024 games, and that bid is likely to include Sacramento venues. Hammond will soon begin working with the Bay, meaning that if California is chosen for the 2024 Summer Olympics, events would likely be held in Sacramento.

Atlanta (1996) was the last American city to host the Summer Games.
