TUOLUMNE COUNTY, CA - A 3-month-old baby was not expected to survive after suffering injuries believed caused by abuse, according to a Tuolumne County sheriff's spokesman.

Sheriff's Sgt. Jeff Wilson said the baby girl was brought to Sonora Regional Medical Center Sunday morning at 9:50 by her father because he told medical staff she was having difficulty breathing.

Doctors examined the child and discovered bruises and other injuries, Wilson said. The baby was transported by air ambulance toChildren's Hospital Oakland.

Wilson said the sheriff's department was contacted and deputies arrested the little girl's father, Kevin Michael Boehmer, 26, on suspicion of cruelty to a child resulting in bodily injury or death.

Boehmer was booked into Tuolumne County Jail with bail set at $100,000.

The baby's mother is in prison in Washington after being convicted of child abuse there, Wilson said. He did not say if the mother's crimes involved the baby girl or another child.
