SACRAMENTO, CA - A man died and more than two dozen residents were displaced from an Arden area apartment complex due to a large fire Monday night.

Residents of the Castle Hill Apartment Complex near Fulton Ave. and El Camino Ave. said they heard several small explosions followed by one loud boom around 11:20 p.m. on Monday. When they came out of their homes to investigate, they saw an upstairsunit engulfed in flames.

By the time Sacramento firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the fire, four more apartments had sustained fire damage. Five units below the blaze incurredwater damage due to containment efforts above, said firefighters.

Firefighters had to shut off power due to the fire, leaving some residents to seek shelter in hotels, while others received support from the Red Cross.

The man living in the apartment in which the fire began, sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died. Another individual was treated at the scene for minor injuries, firefighters said.
