FOLSOM, CA - Two people were killed in a fiery crash early Saturday morning.

Folsom Police responded at 12:28 a.m. to an accident at Folsom Lake Crossing, west of Natoma Street, involving two vehicles.

Folsom police Sgt. Jason Browning said when emergency personnel arrived, they found the driver of a Honda Civic, Steven Schwartz a 28-year-old Orangevale resident, deceased and a BMW SUV fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters put out the flames and it was determined the BMW driver didn't survive, Browning said.

Browning said a preliminary investigation revealed the BMW was traveling eastbound at an extremely excessive speed when the driver lost control of his vehicle, crossing over the double yellow lines into oncoming traffic. Schwartz was traveling westbound when the SUV struck his car.

There were not any passengers in either vehicle, Browning said.

Authorities still have not released the ID of the BMW driver.
