RANCHO MURIETA, CA - Two people were airlifted to area hospitals Tuesday morning following a head-on collision on the westbound lanes of Jackson Highway in Rancho Murieta.

Initial California Highway Patrol reports indicated the crash occurred around 6:07 a.m. right at the Amador County line.

According to the report, a big rig driver told officers one of the involved vehicles tried to pass his truck and hit the oncoming vehicle.

The CHP did not provide specific information on the injuries.
