SACRAMENTO, CA - A man attempted to sexually assault awoman along the Arcade Creek trail near American River College Monday evening, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Sheriff's spokesman Deputy Jason Ramos said the attack took place just before 7 p.m. The victim was grabbed from behind by a man who put his arm around her neck, choking her. He held a knife to her side and said he was going to rape and kill her, she told authorities.

The two struggled, with the victim eventually freeing herself and running away. The man didn't follow.

Ramos said the assailant was described as white, 24 to 28 years old. He was 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet tall and weighed about 180 to 200 pounds. His victim said he had short, shaved hair that was blonde. He was clean-shaven but was dirtyand unkempt.

The attacker wore a light-colored t-shirt, baggy blue jean shorts and rode a blue BMX-style bicycle.

Anyone with information about the attack or who recognizes the perpetrator from the accompanying police sketch was asked to call the sheriff's sex crime detectives at (916) 874-5070.
