SACRAMENTO - A welfare check turned into a homicide investigation andSWAT standoff inNorth Sacramento Tuesday morning.
According to Sacramento police spokeswoman Officer Michelle Gigante, a call of shots fired with someone running from the area was received around 1:30 a.m.
About a half hour later, a passerby called police, informing them of a man down in an alleyway near Redwood Avenueand Cantalier Street, Gigante said.
Upon arrival, officers found a 19-year-old man who had been shot multiple times in the upper body. He waspronounced dead at the scene.
A short time later, officersconducted an investigation atmulti-residential building on the 600 block of W. El Camino Avenue where witnesses reported seeing several individuals run into moments after the shooting. Police and SWAT officers surrounded the building. Shortly before noon, several people inside were removed, detained and questioned by police.
No arrests have been made. Detectives were working to determine the motive for the shooting.
