SACRAMENTO, CA- Homes were evacuated in the Arden-Arcade area of Sacramento after C4 explosives were found in a garage of a home.
The incident began around 7 p.m. when a call came in of a disturbance at the home. The caller adviseddispatchers that the man who lived at the home had explosivesinside,Deputy Jason Ramos said.
Deputies arrived to investigate and discovered C4 explosives located in the garage.
Marcus Kiplinger, 27, was arrestedby deputies at the scene and later booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
"The individual in question was detained outside the home without incident, while patrol officers went inside and found what appeared to be explosive material inside the garage," Ramos said."They called the bomb squad to determine that for sure."
About a dozen homes in the area were evacuated as crews set upa 300 foot radius.
Crews thenworked to remove the explosive material from the home.
Ramos said while the explosive material found in the home wasn't in a form that would be immediately dangerous there were other materials available in the home that could create a significant explosion.
It is not known at this time how or whyKiplingers\ had the explosives in his possession.Neighbors described him as a nice guy who never caused any problems.
A blasting cap found at the scene was taken to a vacant lot and detonated.
Residents were allowed backinto their homes at about 11:30 p.m.
Kiplinger was booked into jail for illegal possession of an explosive, possession of stolen property, possession of an high-capacity magazine and possession of a gun silencer. He is being held on a $500,000 bail.
