CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - A man was arrested for attempting to kill his 3-month-old son.
At 8:52 p.m. on Friday, Daniel Graf, 32,attempted to strangle and choke his infant just after saying he was going to kill the child, Citrus Heights policeLt. Gary T. Hendricks said.
Graf met his wife at Wal-Mart on Auburn Boulevard so he could visit the infant. During the visit, Graf and his estranged wife argued over child custody arrangements prompting Graf's wife to call the police, Hendricks said.
While talking to police, Graf became angry and began choking his son.
According to Hendricks, a police officerput Graf in a choke hold, knocking himunconscious. The infant was successfully rescued and taken to a hospital and is expected to recover.
"Faced with a life and death situation like this officer was, he had to react,"Citrus Heights police Officer John Kempf said. "We have many valuable tools to us. He chose the right one for the right circumstance."
Graf was arrested for attempted homicide, causing a child to suffer physical pain and an outstanding warrant.
Graf was taken to a hospital until he was medically cleared, and then was booked into Sacramento County Jail.
