SACRAMENTO, CA - The Sacramento Police Departmentagain participated in an annualrace across the nationto raise awarness for fallen law enforcementofficers.
Race Across America (RAAM) is a national road-bike race that extends 3000 miles across the United States. The Sacramento 8 member team completed the race in 6 days, 7 hours, and 57 minutes; placing sixth out of 18 teams in their division. They began the race on June 16th in Oceanside, CA and finished in Annapolis, MD on June 22nd.
The goal of the team was to raise money for the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington, D.C.; where the names of fallen officers are memorialized.
Approximately 19,000 law enforcement officers have been killed in the line of duty while protecting the communities of this nation.
On average, one law enforcement officer is killed in the line of duty somewhere in the United States every 53 hours.In 2012 alone, 46 law enforcement officers have died in the line of duty.
