SACRAMENTO, CA - One person is dead and two people are in the hospital after a big rig caused a 3-vehiclecrash on Interstate 5 Thursday evening.
At 6:28 p.m., a big rig travelling northbound on I-5hit a disabledcar that was blocking a lane near Airport Road, California Highway Patrol officer Todd Van Lindt said. The collisionforced the stalledcarto hittwo more vehicles andkilled the driver, 79-year-old Franklin R. Penirian.
According to Van Lindt, people in the other two vehicles suffered minor to moderate injuries; twowere transported to UC Davis Medical Center treatment.
The driver of the big rigwas ok, Van Lindt said.
Officers continue to investigate the crashandlook formore evidence to determine if the driver of the big rig will be charged in death of the elderly man.
