SACRAMENTO, CA - About 12 units were damaged in an apartment fire at a North Highlands complex Thursday evening.

The fire started around 5:30 p.m. at the Date Tree Apartments on 4909 Date Avenue, Sacramento Metro Fire Asst. Chief Scott Cockrum said.

The fire started on the balcony of one unit and quickly spread to the attic of the complex. Cockrum said the majority of the damage was to the initial unit and the attic space; another five upstairs units suffered a lot of damage, while six other units sustained some damage.

It took 30 firefighters to extinguish the blaze in about 30 minutes.

Cockrum said 20 people were displaced by the fire and are being helped by the Red Cross.

No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
