OAKLAND, CA - A three-alarm fire near the West Oakland BART station proved troublesome for firefighters and morning commuters alike on Thursday.
BART was shut down between the West Oakland and 12th Street stations after the fire was first reported around 2:15 a.m.
BART officials said they were using busses to transport commuters between the affected stations until train service could be restored.
The fire, whichstartednear Seventh Street and Mandela Pkwy., spread to neighboring buildings and was approaching elevated BART tracks, prompting the shut down.
Multiple agencies responded to the fire, including California Highway Patrol, which provided aerial support via their helicopter.
No estimated time of reopening was provided by BART officials.
