NEW YORK, NY - Jerry Lewis was taken to a Manhattan hospital Tuesday night after he collapsed at the Waldorf Astoria hotel.

Lewis was at the event to accept the Applause Award and present Tom Cruise with the Friars Club Entertainment Icon Award.

"I am sorry Jerry couldn't be here tonight, but I know he is going to be fine," Cruise said as he picked up his prize.

Update, 1:30 P.M.:

Lewis' rep Candi Cazau in Las Vegas says colleagues have told her Lewis is fine, reports AP. She says he was busy and simply forgot to eat or drink and his blood sugar level took a dive. He taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Besides the Friars event, Cazau says Lewis is beginning three weeks of directing rehearsals for a new musical based on Lewis' 1963 film The Nutty Professor.

The Post reports that Lewis was treated and released.

Lewis has been battling health issues in recent years, including prostate cancer, Type 1 diabetes, pulmonary fibrosis and heart disease.

Cruise, meanwhile, brought along two of his kids - Connor, 17, and Suri, 6, -who watched their father receive the Club's top honor. Cruise is in good company: The Entertainment Icon Award has been handed out to only three other stars -Frank Sinatra, Cary Grant and Douglas Fairbanks.
