STOCKTON, CA - A man trying to stop another man from stealing gas from his vehicle was hit by the thief's truck and left for dead Friday morning, according to Stockton police.
The hit and run took place on the 3700 block of E. Hammer Lane just before 5:33 a.m. when officers were called, said Det. Joe Silva. The victim, a 28-year-old man suffered critical injuries and did not survive.
A witness told officers seeing a confrontation between the victim and the thief over the gas. At one point, the thief got in his truck and the victim grabbed onto the side of it. The driver accelerated and the victim was thrown off and then hit by the truck. The man in the truck sped off without stopping.
The driver was described as a dark-skinned man in his late 30s or early 40s, 6 feet 1 inches tall and weighing 200 to 250 pounds. He wore a white t-shirt, black pants and black shoes.
