PATTERSON, CA - Amazon is coming to Patterson, Calif.!

Amazon.com will build a distributionhub north of Sperry Road, within West Ridge Business Park.

The move is expected to bring 1,000 full-time jobs and 300 to 400 seasonal jobs to a city wrestling with unemployment at over 20 percent.

"One of the things that really needs to happen in our (Stanislaus)county is we need to diversify our economy. Agriculture will always be a huge part of our foundation, but we need to diversify and Patterson is really establishing itself as a center for logistics, distribution," said City Manager Rod Butler.

USAA Real Estate Company will be the landlord for the facility and will lease the space to Golden Gate State FC LLC once the building is built.

Nicole Barrios is working at a Jack in the Box restaurant now, but is hoping for a shot at a job with Amazon.

"Better job, good benefits, something I can look forward to in the future," Barrios said as she took orders from patrons less than a half mile from where Amazon's new facility will be built.

The facility will take up a million square feet, in acreage once planned for up to 32 separate businesses.

"We're pleased to be making this investment in Patterson and look forward to Amazon moving in when the facility is completed in the second quarter of 2013," USAA Real Estate Company Chairman and CEO Pat Duncan said. "We appreciate the support of local and state leaders throughout this project and USAA is excited about being a part of the community."
