SACRAMENTO - Urijah Faber will enter the cageat UFC 139 knowing he has something to prove against Brian Bowles if he wants to remain on top of the bantamweight division.

"I have been in this sports for along time, ithas been eight years now, and I have been at the top of the sport for a long time," Faber told News10. "This is where I want to prove that I can stay here."

The winner of the Faber-Bowles fight in San Jose, Saturday night will become the number one contender and most likely earn a rematch with UFC Bantamweight Champion Dominick Cruz.

Faber beat Cruz in March of 2007 to defend his WEC Featherweight belt, but lost to Cruz by decision for the bantamweight belt this past summer.Bowles' only career loss came to Cruz in March of last year after the doctor stopped the fight because of a broken hand in his first and only WEC Bantamweight title defense.

The "California Kid" understand Bowles will not be an easy fight. Both are considered heavy handed fighter, but Faber hopes to use his speed to his advantage.

"I think I am a little bit faster and a little more elusive and can be more creative in there," said Faber. "I know I will probably frustrate him a bit. I know Brian Bowles he is a buddy, he is also a tough guy that doesn't say much, no bark and a big bite. Not many people know who he is, but they'll know when we have this fight how tough he is and how tough I am and I am looking to make a statement."

The Faber-Bowles fight is part of the UFC 139 card on pay-per-view featuring Shogun Rua and Dan Henderson, and Wanderlei Silva and Cung Le as the co-main events.
