Hundreds of children injured in motor vehicle accidents come to the special pediatrics ER unit at the UC Davis Children's Hospital.

That's why the hospital has established a special car seat education program -- committed to preventing accidents -- to make sure kids stay safe in a vehicle.

UC Davis Car Seat Education and Trauma Prevention Team walks caregivers through the often tricky details of correctly getting securing an infant or child car seat. Getting it right can make the difference between life and death.

"A lot of what comes in are blunt traumas after motor vehicle accidents," UC Davis Pediatric ER Surgeon Dr. Edgardo Salcedo said. "One of the most important preventive measures we can take are a good car seat education and using it correctly."

The car seat safety program is stocked with plenty of safe car seats and information in part thanks to funds from the Children's Miracle Network.

Here's how you can help the car seat education program:

News10 and the Children's Miracle Network is teaming up to host the 20-hour Give for Kids Telethon (#Give4Kids) on Friday to help raise money for UC Davis Children's Hospital.

From 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. you can call 1-877-719-KIDS (5437) to donate using all forms of payment, including cash through a pledge.

Or go to https://giveamiracle.childrensmiraclenetworkhospitals.org to donate online.

When you make your donation, you can designate that it goes to the car seat education program or you can keep it unrestricted. Whether or not you say how you want your donation to be used, it will be used on patient care at the Children's Hospital. It's the cornerstone of the Children's Miracle Network -- money given by our community stays in our community.
