One in six Americans struggles with hunger every day. Across California, 6,403,510 people are food insecure – meaning they don't have access to enough food to live a healthy life.

That statistic is the impetus behind the Outnumber Hunger Concert that will air on News10 Friday at 8 p.m. News10's parent company Gannett Co. teamed up with General Mills and country super stars to help raise money for Feeding America, a non-profit organization that works with local food banks across the U.S.

The Placer County Food Bank is part of Feeding America's network of food banks. Marketing Director Mary Towne said volunteers and donations of food and money are always welcome.

"We can leverage our Feeding America relationships to get about $17 worth of groceries for each $1 that's donated," Towne said. "So really $1 goes quite a long way."

Feeding America said $1 equals to nine meals. In 2013, the organization served 37 million people, distributed 3 billion meals and delivered 800 million pounds of produce.
