Life is good for author Deborah Harkness. Fans hungry for the conclusion to the All Souls Trilogy have sent Book 3, The Book of Life, to the No. 1 spot on USA TODAY's Best-Selling Books list.
The time-traveling fantasy series pairs witch historian Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont as they hunt for a magical alchemical manuscript, Ashmole 782, better known as The Book of Life.
This is the first time Harkness has hit No. 1 on the list. The trilogy's first book, A Discovery of Witches, peaked at No. 8 in 2011; book two, Shadow of Night, hit No. 4 in 2012. The first two books have sold more than 2 million copies globally, according to publisher Viking.
Harkness, a scholar who specializes in the history of science and medicine, is in the midst of a 22-city book tour.
In a review of The Book of Life, Booklist said: "By bridging the gaps between Harry Potter, Twilight, and Outlander fans, Harkness artfully appeals to a broad range of fantasy lovers."
Warner Bros. had optioned the film rights for the All Souls Trilogy, but they have since reverted to the author.
