Sacramento Habitat for Humanity raises funds Thursday to help build more homes in the region.
Empowered, validated and secure are some of the words Sacramento Habitat for Humanity recipients use to describe how they felt when they became homeowners.
They spoke at the Habitat for Humanity Gala "Next Chapter" fundraiser on Thursday, evening.
During the event, Sacramento area business and community leaders listened to how lives changed and hope grew when people made their dream of owning a home a reality with the help of Sacramento Habitat for Humanity (SHfH).
SHfH has completed over 100 homes and is now hoping to connect with more community partners and volunteers. The organization has helped build homes for low income families in the area since 1985.
The homes don't come free. In fact, families have to put in 500 hours of sweat equity. They also purchase their homes with no down-payment, 0 percent interest, 30-year mortgages provided by SHfH.
Funding for SHfH comes from generous monetary donations along with sales from their ReStore. This retail store provides the public an opportunity to buy new and used construction materials up to 70 percent off retail prices.
