SACRAMENTO, CA - After a three-round battle ended with an inadverent poke in the eye, Elk Grove's Scott Smith will finally get his rematch against Robbie Lawlor.
This week Smith went through his final preparations for the July 26 bout that will be televised nationally from the Stockton Arena.
In their first Mixed Martial Arts meeting in May, Smith nearly lost the fight in the first round. "I felt my knee buckle and I had to grab the side of the cage," He told News10. "And I knew things had to change in the next round."
What changed is that Smith, who is known for his heavy hands, went on the attack and appeared to be in control until Lawlor accidently poked him in his right eye. After doctors checked him out, they put a stop to the bout despite pleas from Smith to let him continue.
"I only had a small scratch and a little blurry. I could have gone on, but I guess it makes for a good rematch," said Smith.
The Smith and Lawlor fight will be the main event for the Elite XC at Stockton Arena, July 26.
