Mexico City, Mexico (Sports Network) - Brian Roberts' three-pointer gave the
Hornets a five-point cushion with just over a minute to play and New Orleans
held on to defeat the Orlando Magic, 85-80, in the preseason opener for both
teams.
Roberts, who played for the Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany last season, led
all scorers with 17 points off the bench. No.1 overall pick, Anthony Davis,
played well in his debut for the Hornets, scoring eight points and pulling
down eight rebounds. Fellow rookie Austin Rivers poured in 10 points in his
first NBA action.
The Magic begin their first season without star Dwight Howard. The disgruntled
center was finally traded to the Los Angeles Lakers this past offseason.
E'Twaun Moore, who spent his rookie season in Boston last season, scored a
team-high 16 points off the bench for Orlando. Glen Davis also contributed 13
points and second-year forward Gustavo Ayon added 12 in the defeat.
