Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Starting pitchers Jason Hammel, Wei-Yin Chen
and Miguel Gonzalez were added to the 25-man roster as the Baltimore Orioles
ready for their showdown with the rival New York Yankees in their American
League Division Series.
None of the three were active for Baltimore's 5-1 victory at Texas in Friday's
wild-card game, but each is set to start one of the first three matchups in
this series.
Hammel, who has pitched just twice since mid-July due to a knee problem that
required surgery, will take the ball for the Orioles in Sunday's Game 1. Chen
will start Game 2, scheduled for Monday at Camden Yards, with Gonzalez tabbed
to pitch when the set shifts to New York for Wednesday's Game 3.
Chris Tillman, a candidate to start if the series goes to a Game 4, was also
put on the ALDS roster after being left off for the Texas game.
To make room for the four starting pitchers, the Orioles removed hurlers Jake
Arrieta, Zach Britton and Steve Johnson as well as infielder Omar Quintanilla.
