Mattingly spent his entire 14-year career (1982-95) with New York and served as a bench coach to former Yankee manager Joe Torre before leaving the club following the 2007 season. It was also the first meeting in the Bronx between the Yankees and Dodgers since the 1981 World Series, won by Los Angeles.
