Las Vegas, NV (Sports Network) - Sprint has extended its agreement with NASCAR
and will remain the title sponsor for the top-tier Cup Series through 2016.
The deal is a three-year extension of an original 10-year contract signed by
Nextel in 2004. Nextel was later bought by Sprint.
"Certainly to have a brand like Sprint, who is our entitlement partner and our
largest sponsor in the sport, to come back and essentially review early for us
is huge," said NASCAR's chief marketing officer, Steve Phelps. "I think it
provides a lot of wind at our back. We had a great year at the track, an
incredible Chase with the best finish we've had ever in our Sprint Cup
history."
Tony Stewart won his third championship in NASCAR's premier series this past
season, beating Carl Edwards in a tiebreaker.
