San Antonio, TX (Sports Network) - Meghan Stasi defeated Liz Waynick, 6 &
5, on Thursday to win the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
Stasi emphatically secured her fourth Women's Mid-Am Championship victory by
winning five straight holes to close Friday's match. The Florida native became
just the 16th golfer in history to win the same USGA championship at least
four times.
On Thursday, Stasi defeated Andrea Kraus in the quarterfinals, 2 & 1, then
advanced to the final with a 6 & 5 win over Laura Coble, while Waynick beat
2004 champion Corey Weworski, 2 & 1 in the quarterfinals before
taking down Stacy Dennis with a 5-foot par putt on the 20th hole.
In the final, Stasi took advantage of a bogey by Waynick on No. 3 to grab a 1-
up lead. The margin didn't change until the ninth, when Stasi grabbed
definitive control with a stretch of four consecutive birdies.
Waynick then recorded a double-bogey on the par-5 13th and Stasi wrapped up
the victory with a bogey.
