Dylan Keeney intercepts his first pass during Friday's CIF D-I State Title Game.
CARSON, CA - John Cooley's touchdown and Colin Brown's kick for the extra-point with 1:12 left in the game clinched the CIF Division I State Championship for the Granite Bay Grizzlies on Friday night.
The Grizzlies (13-3) rallied to defeat nationally ranked Long Beach Poly Jackrabbits (12-4) 21-20 at the Home Depot Center to win their 12th straight win and their first state title.
Long Beach Poly missed a crucial extra point following a 10-yard touchdown run by Manusamoa Luuga to give the Jackrabbits a 20-14 lead with 3:47 to go.
Needing a score, the Jackrabbits put together a drive that got them to midfield. But Aaron Knapp caught his second interception of the game to put the game away.
In total, the Grizzlies had five interceptions on the night, including two more from Dylan Keeney. Keeney returned his second of the game 29 yards to give Granite Bay a 14-7 lead in the third quarter.
