Tigers World Series-bound, sweep Yankees

UNDATED (AP) - The Detroit Tigers have won the American League pennant. 

They pounded the Yankees 8-1 Thursday, sweeping New York four games to none. 

Tigers starter Max Scherzer lost a no-hit bid in the sixth inning, while Yankees starter CC Sabathia was hit hard by the Tigers giving up two home runs and six runs in 3 2/3 innings of work.
