Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin
said safety Troy Polamalu will miss Sunday's game against Cincinnati as he
continues to battle a right calf injury and indicated that running back
Rashard Mendenhall is day-to-day because of an Achilles problem.
Polamalu sat out last Thursday's game against Tennessee after aggravating the
calf issue four days earlier against Philadelphia. The injury initially
occurred in the season opener against Denver. He missed two games and had an
extra week with the team's bye before returning briefly against the Eagles two
Sundays ago.
Mendenhall was hurt in last week's game against the Titans. He made his season
debut against the Eagles after recovering from a torn ACL in the final game of
the 2011 regular season and has rushed for 74 yards on 19 carries.
Running back Isaac Redman, the team's leading rusher with 127 yards, is also
considered day-to-day because of a knee problem.
"We are optimistic, but at the same time we are going to take it day-to-day,"
Tomlin said about his banged-up backs and other injured players.
Tomlin said starting offensive tackle Marcus Gilbert will miss Sunday's game
because of an ankle injury, while backup linebacker Chris Carter is also out
with a hamstring problem.
The Steelers also suspended rookie defensive lineman Alameda Ta'amu for two
weeks after he was arrested this past weekend on a DUI charge. Ta'amu has yet
to appear in a game this season.
