LONDON (AP) - IOC President Jacques Rogge says the Olympic body could take further action against the eight badminton players disqualified for discrediting the sport by trying to lose on purpose.
Rogge tells The Associated Press the IOC is waiting to see what action is taken by the national Olympic committees of the four women's doubles teams from China, South Korean and Indonesia.
Rogge applauded the international badminton federation for disqualifying the players but said the IOC will also intervene "if needed."
The IOC has the power to formally expel athletes from the games, taking away their accreditation and kicking them out of the athletes village.
