BURSON, CA - A man is dead, a young woman is in critical condition and a 56-year-old woman is in jail after a shooting in Burson Wednesday.
According to Sgt. Chris Hewitt of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Dept., deputies were dispatched to a home on the 5700 block of Amos Lane around 10:15 p.m. following a report of a shooting.
The person who called 911 is 20-year-old Britney McGhee, one of the victims of the shooting.
Upon arrival, deputies found 52-year-old Randollf Ford dead and McGhee critically injured from gunshot wounds. McGhee was flown to Doctor's Hospital in Modesto and is expected to survive.
Randolf's wife 56-year-old Charity Ford was arrested for the shootings. She was charged with murdering her husband and the attempted murder of her granddaughter Britney, Hewitt said. Charity Ford will also be charged with child endangerment because Britney's 5-month-old son was nearby and could have been hurt.
Investigators said the motive for the shooting is unknown. They're hoping to learn more once they talk to McGhee in the hospital.
"We'll probably get more answers from her when we're able to talk to her," Calaveras County Sheriff Gary Kuntz said. "They lived together, I can tell you that much. It appears to be some kind of domestic issue. To what extent; we're not sure right now."
Neighbors who live nearby are still shocked that a murder happened in their quiet, rural area.
"You don't hear anything, but the wind and the birds," neighbor Randy Beier said. "It's really unusual."
Charity Ford's bail has been set at $1.75 million. She could be arraigned as early as Friday, but likely on Monday.
