STOCKTON, Calif. - On Thursday morning, a jury found Jason Gilley guilty of kidnapping, discharge of a weapon and first-degree murder of Dalene Carlson. Gilley faced a fourth charge of "special circumstance rape" on which the judge declared a mistrial.
Carlson's body was recovered after a lengthy search following her reported disappearance in the Summer of 2011.

Carlson had last been seen with Gilley buying alcohol on video from a grocery store camera. Earlier that night, the pair had socialized at a Stockton bar.
Gilley was apprehended a short while later.

San Joaquin County Prosecutor Robert Himelblau said at the onset of the trial that Gilley's many conflicting statements to police during questioning, and the discovery of bullet casings from Gilley's gun near Carlson's body were significant factors in the case against the Stockton man.
