LODI, CA - One suspect has been arrested in the carjacking of a Lodi man on Sept. 2.
Lodi police detectives and Sacramento sheriff's SWAT officers took suspect Richard Harvey, 51, into custody at his Sacramento home Tuesday, said Lodi Lt. Sierra Brucia. Harvey was booked into Lodi Jail on suspicion of carjacking, kidnapping and conspiracy.
According to police, the victim had arranged to meet with two potential buyers for a vehicle he had listed for sale on Craigslist. The potential buyers, a man and a woman, and the victim met at the latter's residence on the 700 block of S. Stockton for a test drive.
The seller told officers during the drive he requested they return to his home. Instead, Brucia said the victim told officers the man and woman refused and one of them displayed what the victim took to be a handgun.
The carjacker/kidnappers left the victim off in Galt and left with his car. He used his cellphone to call family who in turn contacted police.
Through their investigation, detectives identified Harvey as a suspect, Brucia said.
The status of the victim's car was unknown.
The investigation is ongoing.
