YUBA CITY, CA - It was a good day all around for a kitten stuck in a Yuba City storm drain.
The black feline apparently slipped through a stormwater grate at the intersection of Harter Road and Red Haven Avenue. A resident in the neighborhood heard the cat meowing and called Sutter Animal Services.
Yuba City spokesperson Diana Barrett said animal services called the fire and public works departments for help. A cable harness was fashioned and city maintenance worker John Johnson was lowered into the drain.
About 12 feet below where drain tunnels meet, he found the trapped kitten. She eventually came to him and the two were pulled to safety.
The kitten was estimated to be about 4 weeks old. Barrett said the rescued kitten appeared to be in good health, if tired and hungry.
And even better ending for the kitten's ordeal: Johnson and his family adopted her, naming her Stormy.
It wasn't known how Stormy was in the drain. The rescue was last Friday.
