Rim Fire burning in the Stanislaus National Forest, Aug. 22, 2013
SIERRA FOOTHILLS, CA - Either the Rim Fire's proximity or smoke from the blaze causing poor quality has prompted closures, postponements and/or cancellation of several activities/events in the foothills.
Angels Camp Gold Rush Day, scheduled for Saturday., Aug. 31, has been postponed to Saturday, Oct. 19.
All Tuolumne County public schools are closed from Monday, Aug. 26 through Friday, Aug. 30.
The third annual Film Fest Twain Harte scheduled for this week has been cancelled.
Also, some camps have closed in the area. The known ones are Camp Mather, San Jose Family Camp and Berkeley Family Camp. If you're going to facilities along Highway 120 west of Yosemite National Park or in the area of Groveland, check ahead first.
Yosemite is open but not accessible from Highway 120. Highways 140 and 41 are alternates.
