RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. - A standoff with a man who was first reported to Sacramento County sheriff's deputies as walking down the street in his birthday suit and carrying an umbrella has peacefully ended.
Sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos said deputies arrived on the 10900 block of Cristobal Way about 11:15 a.m. to find the man washing his car in the nude. When the man saw deputies he drew his umbrella but quickly dropped it on command and tried to spray the approaching deputies with bug repellent.
A Taser was deployed in an usuccessful attempt to subdue the man, who fled into a house and refused to come out, said Ramos.
No other people were known to be inside of the home, said Ramos.
At approximately 2 p.m., the man came out of the house voluntarily and was taken into custody. Deputies did not specify whether the man was still naked upon exiting the property.
Following the man's apprehension, deputies searched the home and found a large stash of firearms, none of which were used during the standoff.
The man wasn't identified. Ramos said he was taken to a local hospital on a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold.
