TURLOCK, CA - The former girlfriend of a Turlock man can perhaps rest a little easier knowing he has been sent to prison 10 days after he slashed her throat.

According to the Stanislaus County District Attorney's Office, the woman and Daniel Lee Rigney met at Donnelly Park on July 29 in order for him to return some personal items to her. At some point during the meeting Rigney became angry and bear-hugged the former girlfriend. She punched him and he then slashed her throat, saying "Die, bitch, die."
Passersby saw what was happening and pulled Rigney off of the woman.
She was treated for two gashes to her neck.
Rigney, 52, entered "no contest" to attempted murder causing great bodily injury and making criminal threats. He was sentenced to eight years and eight months in state prison.
