Teacher of the Month for May 2013 - Inderkum High School Teacher Cristy Pitts
SACRAMENTO, CA - She describes herself as a strict teacher, one who has high expectations for her students.
Inderkum High School Teacher Cristy Pitts is an 8-year English- Literature teacher who said she works to instill hard work and respect into her students.
"I love to challenge the students and watch them grow," Pitts said. "At the end of the year, seeing that light bulb go off and they are appreciative of what they have learned in the classroom."
Pitts is not only committed to helping kids in the classroom, but also on a one-on-one basis. Pitts is in charge of the school's universal tutoring system, helping students who need it most.
"Since I am a year round athlete, she really helped me with getting my grades up," student Roberto Tamayo said.
Other students at Inderkum High School described Pitts as a teacher who truly cares for her students.
"She gives a lot of respect, we respect her so much because you can tell when someone cares," student Da-Shalique Banks said.
Pitts said she was motivated to become at teacher because she was influenced by her high school English teacher.
"She was a stern teacher," Pitts recalled. "She had structure in the classroom, but she was filled with love and all her students knew that when we came into the classroom."
