SACRAMENTO (AP) - A teenage victim is suing the Sacramento City Unified School District and a former special education teacher serving prison time for sex crimes.
The Sacramento Bee reports the complaint says the teacher, Preston Howard Lewis, abused the student during his middle-school years and that the district should have known about the teacher's "dangerous and exploitive propensities."
Lewis, who taught at Sam Brannan Middle School, was sentenced in October to 18 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to molesting a 7-year-old boy, sending sexual text messages to a 14-year-old student and possessing child pornography.
An attorney for the victim says Lewis gave the teen the cellphone on which he sent the student sexual texts.
The plaintiffs complain that Lewis also sexually abused the student on and off the Sam Brannan campus.
The suit seeks an unspecified amount of money.
