SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - Traffic was expected to remain slow on northbound Highway 99 as just one lane was open in the Twin Cities Road area due to a big rig fire and clean-up.
The truck driver told California Highway Patrol officers he was cut off by a car a little after 2 p.m. He swerved to avoid a collision and overturned. The truck slammed into the guardrail and the gas tank ruptured, said CHP Officer Michael Bradley.
Spilled gas caught on fire. Additionally, fuel went into a storm drain so HAZMAT crews were called, Bradley said.
The truck driver wasn't hurt but drivers of two other involved vehicles suffered minor injuries.
The CHP expects the other two northbound lanes to be closed until 8 p.m. or later.
The rig was carrying salsa.
