GOLD RIVER, CA - A stolen dog is back home with his family Wednesday night.
"I'm in shock," Katy Kensky said. "This never happens."
The 6-year-old Labrador retriever named Bear was stolen Tuesday evening. He was sleeping in the backseat of Katy Kensky's car. The car was parked in the Whole Foods parking lot in Folsom while she ran in for groceries. When she came out, her car and Bear were gone.
"I wanted to redo yesterday," Kensky said.
Kensky did whatever she could to bring bear home. She was even on News10. Amazingly, someone saw his picture on the news and called her.
"I'm so grateful these kind people brought him in," Kensky said. "They said, 'we don't want a reward. We just brought him in because didn't know what to do with him.'"
Bear was only a mile away from their Gold River home. He was wet from being out in the rain and wandering around her car. Other than a dead battery, Kensky's car is fine.
"Tonight, I felt like I just wanted to stay in the car all night and have the dog with me," Kensky explained. "I feel like I just need to gather those two things because they got away from me."
Bear has a microchip, but no tags. Kensky said that is the first thing on her to do list.
Kensky is also curious about what Bear was up to in the last 24 hours while he was missing and what thieves did with her car. Most of all, she's glad Bear is home.
