'Spirit Walkers: Curse of the Cypress Witch' from G5 Entertainment.
Spirit Walkers: Curse of the Cypress Witch is G5 Entertainment's most recent fantasy hidden object game for Mac providing casual gamers with a pretty fun adventure, bound between two worlds.
The game's storyline unfolds afters a group of investigators head to a campsite where some recent mysterious events occurred. Marylynn, the main character appears to be apprehensive upon arriving at the campsite due to the supposed paranormal events that had occurred. However, upon arrival, things get a little hairy for the group when one of the members gets injured and some serious paranormal events start to unfold.
Throughout Spirit Walkers, Marylynn must travel through several dimensions including the spirit world where the game's selling point is. Among these challenges, the player will learn the story of a cursed girl whose ghostly presence has a lot to do with their friends ultimate demise.
Just like many of G5's titles, Spirit Walkers gameplay features point-and-click mechanics that get you through the games puzzles and adventure aspects. During certain points, you must weave your way through puzzles big and small uncovering clues. As well, there are some pretty clever mini games intertwined with the main adventure that give the player a nice release from the story. Among these are jigsaw puzzles, hidden object searches and others. For the most part these mini games are easy, and there is a hint button that is available for use once it is charged up ever so often.
From a graphical standpoint, Spirit Walkers looks just about on par with most of G5's other titles, however some high points include some nicely designed levels later on in the game. Each level and world has a unique feel to it, along with some added eerie music to make the whole experience packaged nicely. However, the game does not really stand out as exceptionally beautiful or anything, it just does the job and works pretty well.
While most of the game's presentation is pretty clean, like usual the dialogue is over the top and at times just plain outrageous. As this is a mystery game, you would expect there to be some quirky voice-overs, but at times it became a little too much. With that being said, this aspect does take away from the overall feel of the game, but not enough to stay away.
All in all, Spirit Walkers does a good job at what you'd expect from a G5 title. The game nice and clean gameplay that fans of these type of game would come to expect. Unfortunately there are some questionable lines during the dialogue, but players don't necessarily buy these games for that aspect anyway. This game would be a good addition to gamers looking for a casual puzzle with some basic challenges that are easy, yet fun to play through.
Spirit Walkers: Curse of the Cypress Witch is available for purchase at the Mac App store now.
