Detectives investigating 'suspicious' death of person found in Modesto river

MODESTO, Calif. - Modesto detectives classified the death of a person found in the Tuolumne River Thursday night as "suspicious".

Sergeant Rick Applegate of the Modesto Police Dept. said a person called 911 after spotting the body in an area of the river between the 7th Street Bridge and Highway 99.

Officers arrived at the scene and recovered the unidentified decomposing body.

The body was transported to the coroner's facility where an autopsy was scheduled for Friday morning.
