MODESTO, CA - A man is dead after a fight escalated into a shooting in a west Modesto home Wednesday night.
Stanislaus County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a fight and the sound of gunfire at a home on the 900 block of Leon Avenue around 6:27 p.m. While en route, the sheriff's department received another 911 call of a person shot at the home.
Upon arrival at the residence, deputies found Marty Kent, 18, of Modesto suffering from a single gunshot wound, Sgt. Anthony Bejaran said.
Kent was pronounced dead at the scene.
Bejaran said there was a large fight at the home when gunshots were heard.
An all-night investigation, including multiple witness interviews revealed that a late 1990s, dark colored (possibly green) Jeep Cherokee was seen in the area just prior to the shooting.
Detectives did not have a license plate number on the vehicle and were looking to speak with the occupants.
