Grass fire burns 300 acres in Lake County

LAKE COUNTY, CA - A grass fire in Lake County burns 300 acres as fire crews battle the flames.

Cal Fire said the fire started around 2:44 p.m. Thursday at Highway 29 and Perini Road, just south of Lower Lake.

Mandatory evacuations were issued for the Twin Lakes subdivision when the blaze grew from 50 acres to 200 acres.

More than 200 personnel are battling the fire, which already destroyed one home and 10 vehicles.

Crews have contained 20 percent of the 29 Fire.

Crews shut down Highway 29 in both directions south of Lower Lake.
