SACRAMENTO, CA - A second member of Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's staff has been under investigation for alleged credit card abuse, according to the Sacramento Police Department.
The city-issued credit card transactions of Kevin Hart, the former chief service officer in charge of creating and growing a citywide volunteer program, were being probed, confirmed police spokesman Officer Doug Morse.
Hart was hired in July 2010 under a two-year grant. He resigned earlier this year.
Investigators still have tens of thousands of documents to check, Morse said, but there has been no indication of criminal wrongdoing. He said when investigators are finished, the information will be given to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office.
Johnson's spokesman Joaquin McPeek said, "We fully support the Sacramento Police Department's continued investigation of this issue. If there is any wrongdoing found, we support whatever actions will be taken to correct the situation."
Reached at his midtown apartment, Hart told News Ten he would have no comment, but when asked if he'd misused his credit card, he responded, "No. I don't think so."
Another city staffer, council operations manager Lisa Serna-Mayorga, was investigated on the same allegations. Serna-Mayorga resigned and she paid back $9,000 in personal purchases charged to the card, according to Johnson.
Investigators did not say what card charges by Hart may have been considered improper and possibly criminal.
